Junior Livestock Auction (JLA)
The information below is from the 2019 Fair, and it will give you an idea of what to expect in 2020. Please check back soon!
San Diego County youth have been working all year, raising swine, goats, lambs, steers and rabbits, all pointing toward this day — the Fair’s Junior Livestock Auction. The youth livestock programs give 4H and FFA members an opportunity to learn valuable skills in selection, care and feeding of livestock, animal health and record keeping. These projects also teach important life skills.
The auction is the culmination of Market Week. All week, the animals are judged, and only those deemed blue-ribbon quality are eligible for the auction. Those interested in being a bidder, and helping to support these hard-working youth, can get more information by calling the Livestock Office at (858) 792-4283. Another way to offer financial support is to donate to the Friends of the SD Fair Paypal account.
Please note: The starting time of the Junior Livestock Auction is one hour before the gates open to the public. Bidders and participants have been contacted for early admission.
