Xscape, an R&B group from Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 1992 with members Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, Kandi Burruss, LaTocha Scott, and Tamika Scott. Originally a quintet, they became a quartet after Tamera Coggins-Wynn’s departure in 1993. Producer Jermaine Dupri discovered them, signing them to his So So Def label. Their 1993 debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, went platinum, launching hits like “Just Kickin’ It.”
Their follow-ups, Off the Hook (1995) and Traces of My Lipstick (1998), produced hits like “Who Can I Run To?” and “My Little Secret.” After disbanding in 1998, members pursued solo careers—Burruss became a successful songwriter, penning hits for TLC.
Xscape reunited briefly in 2005 and again in 2017, performing at the BET Awards and Essence Festival. Burruss opted out of new music, leading Tiny, LaTocha, and Tamika to form XSCAP3, releasing the Here for It EP in 2018. In 2021, Xscape faced SWV in a Verzuz battle, reviving interest in their music. The Bravo series SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B followed in 2023. Despite lineup changes, the group continues to perform, cementing their legacy in R&B.
