Plant Grow Eat

Learn About Agriculture

Teachers: Incorporate agriculture into your curriculum with our Plant Grow Eat program. Students grow plants in the classroom, then bring them to the Fair to learn more about agriculture and receive ribbons for their hard work!

The Fine Print

One of the San Diego County Fair’s longest-running educational programs, Plant Grow Eat lets students in K-6 classes experience the fun and wonder of growing an edible garden plant.

In June, classes take a field trip to the Fair where their plants are judged, and students receive a ribbon. Students and teachers may then explore the Fair’s other educational exhibits.

Kindergarten through third grade students grow radishes. Fourth through sixth graders have a choice of a salad basket (lettuce and radishes), an herb basket or an edible flower basket.

No. Plant Grow Eat is a program for schools that are in session in June, when the Fair is open. Students grow their plants as a classroom project, and attend the Fair as a school field trip.

This is a free program. The Fair supplies the plant materials. Students, teachers and chaperones receive free admission on their Field Trip day, and school buses park free.
